Club History continued.... (from the home page).
City of Worcester Gymnastics Club teaches gymnastics skills to children from age two and at all skill levels. Previously it was located at the University of Worcester, Henwick Grove, Worcester, having being resident there from 1998.
In 1998, the Worcester Olympic Gymnastic Club’s head coach retired from coaching gymnastics and very generously he donated all the equipment, so that a new club could be formed from the bare bones of the old one. City of Worcester Gymnastics Club was born with the hopes of establishing a new and more positive reputation at the University of Worcester’s main site.
The club continued to be successful, and picked up many awards, by individuals and at team events. City of Worcester Gymnastics Club continued to develop, by increasing membership, and where appropriate reaching out to local schools, they also partnered the university in summer school activities, proving very successful at reaching children who would not normally choose gymnastics as a sport.
However, the only drawback to using the shared facility of the University, was that club training times were very restricted. As the club continued to grow, it became very clear that the best way forward was for the club to find their own facility.
In 2009 the club attained Charity status, and was accredited as part of the growing organisation to gain the Gym Mark award.
Finally, in early September 2009, the signed the lease and took possession of Eden's Warehouse in the Diglis area of Worcester. Coaches and parents all worked very hard to turn it into the only fully kitted gymnastics facility in Hereford and Worcester. The dream was at last a reality. Gymnasts from all over the county can now train at a bespoke gymnasium, and coaches can concentrate all their time on developing the club to hopefully greater success.
Hopefully a new era dawns and who knows what it will bring...........only time will tell!
